Find your inner Irish at Paddy Fest

March 1, 2013|Sun Sentinel News

O'Shea's Pub on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach will once again host "Paddy Fest" on March 16 and 17.

The free event will feature a two-day block party with bagpipers, Irish dancers, bands and traditional Irish food and drink.

This year, beyond all the corned beef, cabbage and Irish jigs, O'Shea's will be adding a different Irish tradition. The festival's newest segment involves a test of strength between competitors as they heave a 110-pound stone to see who tosses it farther.

The Celtic Heavy Stone competition will be held on at 2 p.m. March 17. Participant registration starts at 12:30.

The "O'Shea's Celtic Heavy Stone Championships" will be officiated by Cynthia Morrison, a retired Highland Games athlete and stone lifter.
